Have you been to a situation where you are being offered a promotion after you send the resign notice email to your boss? I am in big dilemma. I am fully aware that it is a big NO to take up since they never understood the value until you give the notice. However I just want to get feedback or advice if anyone who have taken up the promotion and say no to prospective employer. How long did you stay even after you offered the promotion in current job? I like the work what I have been doing. And good thing is the wlb and commute which is pretty good. The new place I am heading is start up offering TC around 25k more plus 15k sign on bonus in ( plus equity of 2000 stocks i.e paper money in the unicorn start up) very well funded Bio start up and working on ML/AI good stuff. So overall about ~12% hike. TC ~195k , yoe 6 years. No trolling please. Any valuable feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Isn't it pathetic your boss never recognized and appreciated you or did anything to keep you happy UNTIL you decided to jump ship. They already know you did this once.
Giving a good ending story because everyone else has a negative advice. I have been given a counter offer with 33% hike(~100k per year) with a promise from a VP to support my promo attempt next time so I don't leave the company and overall have had a positive experience and have the promo as well as suggested. It's not always a mistake to stay make a call based on how your relationship with your manager is.
12 to leave is risky ... doesn’t seem worth it
That is true. Plus the risk of joining a start up.
It's a general belief you'll have less leverage once you decide to stay put. It's true in many cases unless you have a decent boss. But personally I wouldn't stay in any scenario once I expressed I wanted to leave.
If you liked your job, then why didn’t you ask for a raise before applying elsewhere?
True, I was under impression that the promotion only happens twice in a year but I was wrong. I am told the promotion can happen anytime in the year. I was waiting for this year to end. I have brought up the promotion topic during 1 on 1 couple of times but I was being told but to be honest my manager said we will look into it. I will review competency document and will review. It is been 3 months. Now the water is at neck now for them.
Yeah, best to leave.
Use it as leverage to get a renegotiate with the new company.
The new company anyway offering the new title though.i.e one level up then the existing one.
Jump. Was offered raise + promotion + perks after resigning. They had years to do that as I kept asking. They're just doing the minimum needed to keep you there. Company looks out for its best interests; you look out for yours
Thanks all
Just imagine what the relationship with your boss will be if you decide to stay... I doubt it'll be good. Most people who accept those counter offers do end up leaving shortly after anyway.
Agree, most people stay from what I have heard is less than year. But it would no longer a good chemistry for the long term.
I stayed got more money and a promotion and then used that as a leverage to get an even bigger offer few months after.
