Microsoft has given me a verbal offer to join the Azure team and I'm expecting to receive the written offer by next Tuesday. On the other hand, my Google onsite interview is scheduled next Thursday. Their process (interview, feedback, offer extension, team matching, written offer) will take so much time that even if I clear the onsite interview, I'll get the written offer from them only by the end of February. Microsoft, on the other hand, tentatively wants me to join by Feb mid. The Google recruiter says that next Thursday is the earliest interview slot that's available for me so preponing the interview isn't an option. What should I do? ================================= Few stats: Current TC: 120k in Bay area. Microsoft verbally offered TC: 215k in Redmond. Google recruiter said that they'll match Microsoft's offer adjusted for Bay area's cost of living.
Ask 2 things more emphatically: 1) ask Google to advance results since you have an offer. 2) ask Microsoft to postpone due date on the offer. That mid feb hard start date is likely not a hard date at all Anyhow, congrats! 215k in Seattle vs 120k in bay area is a massive jump in pay
I'll try my best to do this.
Choose Microsoft over G ..a much more matured comoany and much more exciting..I left G after 8 years and u am much happier at Microsoft
For the 3rd option, my misgiving is that msft is certainly an org where I'd love to work some day in the future. Will I get a bad name in the msft recruitment board for quitting so soon that may jeopardize my ability to join there in the future?
It will depend on the hiring manager, but Imo you should only go for option 3 if you don't mind being blacklisted at MSFT. I have heard Google offers are good for a year, so if you end up joining MSFT & then get an offer from G, my advice would be to wait the year out.
Oh that's good to know
Do not burn bridges at any of these companies. You’d be stupid to pull the third option.
Did u get any system design interviews for ms?
What level for MSFT?
And YOE?
