Just as I convinced myself to pay a premium for a Tesla, yet another vehicle has destroyed a family. When do you think the Autopilot tech will less half baked? https://electrek.co/2019/08/10/tesla-model-s-explodes-crash-truck-autopilot/amp/
Do you post every single car fire news here on blind. Don’t think so.
Normally others cars are driven by humans with little AI input. This one claims to launch full self driving by the end of year? I don’t buy every car, and this one was high on my list, but too many explosions as a risk of the car not being able to detect stationary vehicles at high speeds.
If you are actually interested in buying the car and not just promoting against it, you realize you could drive it yourself or serve as a back up as originally intended, as it improves. There are higher risks in the first years of automation existance. All of the Tesla driving is adding to it's experience and learning. Then the roll out upgrades over the air, so you can benefit.
Destruction doesn’t mean fatalities. Their life is upended and the trauma of being injured in a burning vehicle that crashed into a tow truck ruins your week?
Right. So you can handle trauma better than others. Let’s base 8 other billion humans experiences on how a joker deals with his life. Ya should write a book. Use the title unbreakable.
This has nothing to do with Autopilot. The fire is caused by the battery losing the seal and its contact with air.
Not correct.
Its pretty absurd that people freak out over every single tesla accident. I saw a BMW in a crash yesterday but for some reason couldnt find the national news on it??
It probably didn’t burst into flames. It also probably had door handles so escaping the vehicle would be easier.
You two speaking as owners with experience or future employees of Tesla?
Meat-based pilots have a much worse records.
Long time Tesla owner and you are taking all this way to the extreme. The current technology is not designed to detect stationary objects when you go over a certain speed. This is how all of the companies work, not just Tesla. The AEB system simply won't kick in on a stationary object. Also, the family walked away with minimal injury, which is actually pretty good all things considered. As it stands you are less likely to be in a crash if you use autopilot. And even less likely if you use it correctly (which means actually paying attention). I have AP1 and when I use it correctly I feel more in control of my situation because I know where the car works and where it doesn't, so I'm able to look for the edge cases rather than focus on everything all at once. Me combined with AP has helped me to avoid a number of accidents that I'm not sure would have been avoided otherwise.
Love this post! Thank you for educating us as an owner and someone who knows whats going on.
I guess you need to be a techie to know how to "use it correctly" and know the edge cases that don't work. Is there a separate license test for that?
“Full self driving”. Or at least it’s marketed as such.
It's not though, not even close, and Tesla doesn't even remotely say that it currently does anything more than advanced driver assistance. "Full Self Driving" isn't even fully developed yet nevermind through the regulatory approvals that will follow after.
Come on now, you kidding? Tesla and Musk have been throwing around “full self-driving” for years, and also claim it can do “full self driving” on-ramp to off-ramp. https://www.theverge.com/2019/1/30/18204427/tesla-autopilot-elon-musk-full-self-driving-confusion https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tesla-autonomous-factbox-idUSKCN1RY0QY https://jalopnik.com/tesla-is-still-using-the-phrase-full-self-driving-to-de-1835012651 Marketing terms like “full self driving” are why you see Tesla drivers sleeping on the highway.
Elon is a snake oil businesses man. When will people understand?
To be fair, we voted agent orange to office and he be selling snake 🐍 oil too. We reward bold, visionary leaders with little Substance to back up promises?
Orange man bad!
