I’m living in a city where there’s not much tech job in California. Working as full remote L6 SDE now.

I got an offer from Netflix. Based on what HM said, company is not officially supporting full time remote position, but his team is basically open to full remote and he believes that company will be open to full time remote position in future even though most of his team members are living in Bay Area.

Netflix offer is current tc + 90k and I can’t move to Bay Area for personal reason.

I read many Blind posts saying that Netflix is not a remote friendly culture and remote member will easily be out of manager’s sight so full remote member would have higher risk to be fired. (I don’t believe it 100% but think it’s possible)

I’m tt in current team and plan to start working on promo for next 1-2 years.

I won’t change company often since I’m living in a city I have to be a full time remote. WLB and job safety are more important than tc now since I have 2 kids now.

My team has good culture, good WLB, interesting project. So, there’s no motivation to try other opportunities than higher TC.

In my situation, what would you do between joining Netflix vs stay in Amazon and work hard for PE promo?

YOE: 7
TC: 390k

If the team is cool with remote inclusive, then it should be fine. Your TC would be higher in LG depending on the location tier you’re at currently, should your personal reason change in the future.

Keeper test is the one that I’m worried. Not sure if being only full time remote in a team would impact the keeper test in anyhow. I’m thinking for long-term since I won’t change company often unless I need to.

I wouldn’t overthink the keeper test. It shouldn’t be a surprise to you at all.

Netflix will fire you fast if you start to fall behind

The other thing to consider is that if most/all of your colleagues are in the office (eventually) but you’re the lone remote worker, you may feel alienated and it may impact your work and interactions with coworkers

If you can't join remote and you can't relocate then don't join. It'd be a huge risk to just hope you can get remote work approves before the official back to office.
