I left my old job in April 2018 and started at another company in Aug 2018. The culture at my current job is really bad so I want to leave my job. Is it okay if I completely omit this change from my resume? As in just sat company X until 2018 and company Y 2019 - present and no mention of my current job. Is there a way for the recruiters or companies to find out about the current job? I am assuming the companies check background only for companies that are currently on the resume.
Itâs fine to leave stuff of your resume but that may bring up questions. You can be dishonest and only put start dates on the resume which would lead someone to believe that you are still there but you definitely shouldnât lie about being some place at some time when you werenât. If they choose to look into it they can always find out. But my real question is who cares if you include it? As long as your resume doesnât show that you jump ship every 6 months no one is gonna care about a quick stint that youâre trying to escape and will be fine accepting âcompany cultureâ as a reason
I had to leave another company in the past after 3 months there due to horrible work culture. So I just want to omit this completely hoping that no one can find out.
How many years have you been in the workforce and how many different companies have you worked at?
I wouldnât omit something so current. For old older things itâs ok, but a quick background check would prove you left it off
It's fine to leave it off, no one cares. They might ask about the gap but that's it. Verification companies just confirm whatever you put down on your resume.
Totally fine to leave it off. There are a bunch of ways to handle it if people ask, but most employers won't. Ideas include: 1. Took time off to determine what I was looking for in the next step of my career or travel or spend time with family or explore consulting 2. Left role off because it wasn't relevant; especially as you get further in your career, some amount of editing is expected 3. (If you keep it on) decided it's not a good fit because x reason (ideally something addressed in the new role), wanted to give the role a fair chance so didn't leave immediately
Itâs almost May already, 1 year at a job shouldnât scare anyone.
