Hi, I am in need of help from Amazonians who have contested or went through pivot. I got my pivot recently. Have not selected any option yet, still have two days to do that. I wanted some suggestions based on your experiences. The document seem to have a general part where manager has put all general venom in and then there are three examples of my failure in task behaviour impact format. Out of the three examples one is a genuine slip by another team where two people goofed up and they went on dev list last year. And of course being the PM its part of my responsibility also to notify stakeholders on the slip. However, the other team was not transparent with me and failed commitment at the last moment for which they were penalized already. The other two examples are botched up and I might be able to prove otherwise if I contest. Here are my questions: 1. As I have heard here earlier that the appeal has to be specific to the points, anything outside is dismissed. So, are the 3 examples that need to be contested only or the entire summary? 2. Are 3 examples limit of pivot format by design or its just that manager chose to give only 3 examples? 3. Is this document going to be same based on which I appeal, or this is just a preview of multiple examples with proof (this document has none), which is going to be presented to me ? or directly to the jury if I choose to appeal? 4. This document has no data on KPI or any parameter of success if I choose to "improve at Amazon" option. On what basis do I choose the option, it has vague terms like earn trust. Which anyone can say with the slightest complain that you did not earn trust during your pivot period ? So confusing. 5. Manager doesn't have a coaching document during dev plan, neither do I (my mistake of not taking records as I am not familiar). However manager speaks about coaching around every line. Actually manager just criticized me all the time during previous 1:1s and now call it coaching. 6. Reading entirely from above, do you think I have chances to win if I appeal? 7. HRBP has not met me even once. What is their use or purpose in this ? Just walk around office ? 8. The so called 'career ambassador' is a friend or foe ? Thanks for time to read and your suggestions.
Dude, quit — why bother going down this path.
Make a decision based on your vesting schedule. The options are to quit now, or quit after vest. I don't know what the timing is for your options...
Start looking now for new job and challenge. I have no idea how win challenge, but it will at least delay decision. If you lose challenge, take severance and start new job you found in the aforementioned step.
Reading through your post... I think you should start looking for a new opportunity and take severance.
Care to elaborate please? You have already won two pivots...please advice.
You’re more focused on proving your manager wrong than you are improving. That won’t win you an appeal, and it makes a toxic environment for a PIP.
You will lose, unfortunately. Best case is to delay to find a job but also fine to just walk away with money now and enjoy the time off.
Look into your past email communications, Chime chat history, sim issues and whatever makes you look good.
Thanks ...noted.
Especially look for examples that contradict or invalidate your managers'. Also, look for examples where your manager did not communicate to you timely or explicity, and where your manager did not develop you or did not assess your improvement even if you have improved. I am a sde, not sure if this applies to you.
Career ambassador is a friend but they can only help with advice. HRBP is a foe.
Amazon’s 💩y culture never ceases to amaze me
