I have an upcoming onsite interview with Amazon world wide advertising in Palo Alto. Any tips on what to expect? Role: SWE Yoe: ~6yrs TC: ~300k Also, any feedback about the team and the kind of work they do would also be useful. I want to get SDE-3 offer. Recruiter said leveling would be based on interview performance. Can anyone confirm? Any tips on how to get SDE-3 offer?
The big thing that your interviewers will be looking for when determining sde-2 or sde-3 is how good your system design is (at the service or inter-service level). If you get onto a sde-3 loop be ready for questions more oriented around design than pure coding skill.
Make sure you do an sde 3 loop and not an sde 2 one.
System design, have good leadership examples of mentoring and influencing decisions without authority. Be ready with examples of challenging technical and organizational situations. I think I know who you're interviewing with. They tend to be really nice so any friction will be a negative.
@everyone, thanks for the help. I had one basic question: is the level pre-allocated, or is that decided after the interview?
Pre allocated in most cases.People who interview SDE 3 candidates are different/senior than who interview SDE 2 candidates ,thus the loop has to be pre set for that level
Make sure they put you in SDE 3 loop. Also to clear SDE3 loop you have to be better than 50% of current SDE3 engineers. It's much easier to get promoted internally than come from outside as sde 3
False Its much easier to get hired as an SDE3 instead of getting promoted internally. HR will lie to you and tell you will be top of the band L5 and would be promoted. Promotion to L6 needs 2-3 solid L6 level projects which will take at-least 1.5 years.
