I have interviews with the visual studio team and the economics team in a few weeks time.

SDE2 level position. Was wondering how these teams are viewed internally?

Was told visual studio is part of Azure, a definite growth area, but unless I'm mistaken visual studio is a desktop software and not cloud yes?

Also economist team is situated in AI&R ,which I hear is good growth organization. Trying to get a feeler if it's a good place for SDE since it appears the team is lighter on the software engineering side, but maybe I'm wrong?

  • Depends on where in Visual Studio. They have lots of tools for e.g. Azure management (you need to deploy to Azure even from desktop VS) and infra (subscriptions). IMO it's a strong org.

I wouldn't care much about exact EVP Visual Studio is under. MS is a country of reorg. No stability here.

  • VS is a big org with both desktop and cloud offerings. Much of office now uses VSO the online version of VS. I know several people there who have had very good career growth.

I have no idea what the economist team is . Air just had a big reorg recently and lost part of its charter. There is a lot of interesting stuff there but I'm not sure what they'll do with an sde ii or whatever.

    OP
Anyone has interactions with the economists team (AI&R), curious to know the type of work and level of impact in the organization. Thanks.
