Opinions on Nordstrom
2 years experience, have an SDE 2 offer from Nordstrom, roughly 130k base with a small sign on bonus (around 6k and takes 2 years to vest....). They also try to claim that the yearly 20% (not guaranteed) performance bonus should be considered in total comp. So, opinions on offer and also what working at Nordstrom is like?

Ditch Nordstrom, it’s going down the poop shoot. Check out the place across the street with the 2 giant glass balls if you want serious SDE action. Heard they’re hiring.

Awesome company really. Will be one of the last retail standing. Huge on innovation. Could be a fun move
That's a solid base for sde2. Your mileage will widely vary depending on the team.
I was there for 2 yrs as a tech PM. I absolutely hated it. There is no vision, bad leadership, and projects are small in scale. You get no global experience and many decisions are made in a vacuum. Devs don’t get the tools they need and there are so many reorgs. Mgrs get promoted without proper experience and there is little skills and career growth opportunity. I decided to go back to my previous company and it was like taking a breath of fresh air. I would not recommend Nordstrom as a good place to work, though for retail, they are doing way better than most.
