I will soon graduate from both my French and Canadian CS master (avrg university). No luck with faang so far. I have passed most online code challenges but none lead to a phone interview. So now I am hesitant between staying in Montreal or going back to Paris. Maybe a lead in Bloomberg and Algolia but nothing real so far. First offer I've got as a data engineer in a small company - TC ~ 45k€ Any advice from you guys? You make me jealous with your 6 figures as new grad
Where are you based currently. 6 figures are mostly in big centers such as SF Ny and Seattle. But the cost of living is equally high. If you just graduated you may want to consider getting a job where you will learn and grow, build things. Money will automatically come.
Is this 45k in Montreal?Canada has quite a few opportunities for devs and data engineers. However even for mid level roles you get only 60k-65k euros (100k cad).If you want Blind level comp you must work in the US.Why don’t you work in the small company for a bit and then after two years move to the US. If you have a Canadian citizenship you can work on a TN visa.
This TC is in Paris when I added all the benefits. I was Targeting the same amount converted in cad in Montreal. Unfortunately I am French, so a Canadian citizenship is years away.
It’s pretty good level for Paris entry level :)..However moving to Montreal will increase your income level for sure. But ultimately you will have to work in the US for the 150k-200k usd salaries
French too. Apply for express entry and get the pr.
Can you define the Express entry and the pr? Don't know those terms
Google it, it will be simpler
Both of those pay crap. Move to US. Or at least Geneva, Switzerland if you just have to be surrounded by french and have an EU passport, there are 6 figure new grad jobs there too
From what I have seen positions in Geneva and CH in general are mostly aimed at PhD and research, I don't fit the requirements (at least at Google). If you know more about "general swe or de" position share away I am interested. Being surrounded by French is not a requirement ^^'. Moving to the US looks next to impossible, maybe I should be doing an internship there but I am almost done with my degree. But I do hope Bloomberg at NYC will work for me
What’s your masters in? I might be able to refer you in Canada
My master is in Computer Science, I build a model to allow personalised game content and gameplay in serious games. But my professional experiences involved web dev and NLP/ML
The place I work in are looking for just that and we’re hiring like crazy Dm me if you’re interested
Screw it. You’re FRENCH! These 6 figure folks are probably jealous of you because of your sexiness 🤪
They have the Asian girls tho 😭 French ones are rad too tho
Montreal doesn't have as many as you are thinking...
