Options for FANG engineering managers
I recently quit Amazon as L6 SDM and will join fintech as a director. I have over 20 years of experience and 10+ years of leading teams of more than 25 engineers. FANG experience -2 years. I am not sure if I made the right career move by switching to fintech (director role). Where do FANG EMs generally go? Curious to know what options are available. Thanks in advance TC 400 k
Yo that resume is impressive. How do you manage talking to a lot of ppl ? My social battery dies after 3 ppl enter my office.

Are you happy in your new role? Is it challenging (In a good way)? Do you like the company and see yourself being happy there? I've been a Director and VP at startups, Senior Director at SFDC, and am now M1 at FAANG. I feel like at this point in my career, it's worth looking for the job that provides the challenge and environment I'm looking for. I actually took an offer that was a level below (same comp, though) an offer from a different FAANG.
I am a bit confused. I was initially happy when I resigned but going to a smaller company with slightly better comp is not ideal. It may offer better WLB but won't have the same options as in big company. If I dont like the org or my manager, I am stuck or need to look for another job. I have a feeling I didnt shop around enough before accepting this offer. Hence curious to know where other FANG managers end up.
Gotcha. I've done the reverse and ended up at FAANG. My own experience has been that options are limited in companies/orgs where there isn't much change. When companies grow, re-org, etc. there's usually opportunity to make a move.
Such a good question for EMs / SDMs. Lateral moves at FANG or bigger roles in smaller companies. The latter offers faster progression. Curious where you are OP a year later.
