Oracle is a bit of a shitshow, but there’s lots of opportunity in filling all the gaps and catching up with what all the other cloud companies have already built. It’s still an enterprise company learning to pivot. The future of the company is in the balance on if it can pivot or not, and if it can’t (and/or the street doesn’t believe it can have a cloud play - I believe it can, but not an “at-scale”/“utility” play like AWS/Azure - they need to be more niche) then they will be half their value and perhaps swallowed up somewhere. Google is a bit of a gilded cage - lots of the hard/interesting problems have already been solved, or there’s a small crew of people that gets to pick these problems up. People get bored there or very reliant on all the platforms they have (and no-one else does). So, if you want to take a gamble, build new(ish) things, and can work through some chaos/ambiguity, then Oracle may be your place. If you want a more stable job, marvel at some world-class tech (but not actually build much yourself), and can deal with the (growing) politics, then Google is for you.

This is very insightful. What’s your view on Microsoft? Why you still work there?

Microsoft IMO is still very strong. Yes, people bitch about pay, and yes it is a little lower than at other places. What people seem to forget though is all the other benefits MS provides (which trust me, adds up), and the WLB and pace isn’t nearly as high as these other companies - if you want to get paid more, you have to work for it, and not get the stability that MS offers (and yes, there are teams that work their butt off, but the expectations aren’t nearly as high as FB or AMZ). Long term I’m very bullish about MS - cloud and office plays are doing well, and they have a sales engine than the other challenges (AMZ, GOOG) don’t have. AMZ absolutely have first mover advantage, but I feel the game is only in its first quarter and some players are good finishers vs starters (MS is slow, both in identifying and then in execution, but when it rows together and in for the long-haul history has shown it does well. Past results do not predict future returns though!)

Tc ?

Microsoft BADC0DE Jun 14, 2018

Doesn’t matter - OP said that they were pretty much the same.

Saying TC doesn't matter on blind is like saying looks don't matter on Tinder.
