IC4 ~$205k Oracle NYC (currently here), Database Or L62 ~$210k MSFT Redmond, Azure (TC first year more like $250k with sign-on) Thoughts? TC is similar enough and depends on equity and stock prices. I assume MSFT will grow much more than ORCL in value. Career growth at ORCL is iffy. Having both names on resume would be nice for FAANG in the future. I like both cities, but prefer NYC. Open to exploring Seattle for a year or two.
Try other companies in NYC before making a decision
I would prefer this if the Microsoft offer didn't expire next week. My thinking is to gain more skills and experience at Microsoft and if I hate it or Seattle, hunt for better opportunities in NYC. Google, FB, startups, etc.
Coming to Seattle opens up lot more opportunities in seattle and bay area (closer to seattle). Take the Microsoft offer and work for 2 years
L62 - 210k is pretty damn good. Base is like 140, rest in stock?
Washiton state doesn't have state tax, so you get more money.

Db team is pretty good in general and they get good refreshers. Which is the exact team??
Good but not OCI good. Also, who knows when my team's product will be deemed "classic" and us all laid off.
Dont know about your exact team but I know DB teams at HQ which get paid almost G/Fb level and they have PhDs from MIT working there. If you look at Larrys keynote Oracle is focussing on Autonomous DB and OCI so DB is always important to Oracle
Your TC is pretty good for non-OCI Oracle, and good enough to live comfortably in nyc. In comparison, I am in nyc and get 150. Are you sure you want to move to Seattle for that little TC bump? From what I hear, Seattle is pretty depressing. If I were you, I'd stay in ny and keep trying to get a better offer.
It's far less about TC and more about skills and experience. I want to try something different and haven't been successful with getting other offers in NYC. Microsoft for a couple years and a chance living in the Pacific Northwest before presumably getting back to NYC. Just to switch things up a bit.
Hi, I am curious what you ended up doing? Also, Oracle has database team in NYC? Would love to know more about it. I looked on website and there are seldom any SDE opening for NYC.
Oracle NYC was full-time remote. I ended up going with Microsoft.
May I know how one could get a remote position with Oracle? I am interested in DB work and based in NYC. I would love to hear more about your experience. Good luck with everything with Microsoft!
If you can move.. definitely Microsoft. I have friends who are in non OCI parts of oracle and they do not like it at all. In terms of money, Washington does not have taxes. So you can save more as they pay for your relocation. Only negative I see is bit of weather and small city so you will bored soon.
I like my team at Oracle, but not the company as a whole. And this affects how the team operates. Microsoft is a much cooler place.
