Top red flags in guy to see before saying yes to marriage (arranged)
Am BS new grad. Recently got an offer for OCI in seattle and about to go onsite for Tesla SDET/automation position. OCI: 120k + ~37k/yr + 20sign (non-negotiable) Tesla: 120-130k + ~35k/yr + 0 sign Series C/D startup in socal: 115k + paper equity + 0 sign (non-negotiable) Leaning more toward OCI because work seems interesting and TC is good but im worried that the name would look bad on my resume than Tesla/startup when i look to switch later. Or maybe its just Blind that looks down to the name. While Tesla has big name, i dont know if Ill be pigenholing myself to being a tester forever and potnetial WLB problems. Startup’s work looks promising (backend go and ruby) and has strong potential but TC is low. Any advice would be appreciated! TC:0 Yoe:0.4
OCI without any second thought. Don't consider OCI as Oracle. Work quality, culture and compensation are much better there as compared to other teams in Oracle. I know people who moved to OCI from Amazon and Microsoft. My fiance graduated last year and turned down Amazon, Microsoft & Facebook offers and joined OCI. WLB was one reason, also OCI was offering higher position with better compensation comparing other offers. Talking about Tesla, one of my friend joined there and quit within a week. It's among one of the worst WLB companies to work for. Also, it's SDE vs SDET. It will be difficult to switch the role in future. If brand is your only concern, I'm sure you'll know more about OCI once you're in Seattle.
Thanks for the input
Well this is a first. Someone is actually speaking good things about us on blind
Oracle isn't much lower prestige than Tesla. OCI/distributed systems work looks good on a resume. It's much easier to go from SDE to SDET than the other way around (if you enjoy testing though...) Oracle would be what I choose.
Mind sharing about your on site with OCI?
Standard behavior + whiteboard. LC med/easy
Any DP/graph? I’ve been hitting DP but not really graph so a bit worried about that but everyone says that no company asks about graphs
Oracle employee here, name doesn’t matter. Go with what you like. People say bad things about Tesla too
If you want more interesting technical work, better WLB, and a better resume for tech, go with Oracle. If you want to work on a product your friends know and you want to help Musk change the world by giving your all to feel good products, go with Tesla. (Oracle has some feel good things too, but it's through customers using the tech, not the tech itself)
I would rather eat a bullet than work for Oracle. So Tesla even though Elon musk is an immature fraud.
Hahah OP this is extremely late but I hope you picked Tesla bc that stock appreciation alone, curious where you’re at now tho?
Do you want to be a developer or a tester. Forget companies and decide that first. Also yeah people talk down about Oracle but it's fantastic company. And it carries a brand value as well. Good luck. Don't worry about money.
I came here to say this. Dev will always be paid more than SDET. Be a dev. SDET is a dying profession
Most companies I know have gotten rid of the SDET role. Don’t start in it now.
