Is it a good idea to go for oracle with the recent layoffs they had? The team is related to OCI I am not sure if it is a good idea or not.
If you’re on visa then think twice before joining. Layoffs can happen anywhere at anytime
Do you mean any company or oracle in specific?
Oracle is known for lay offs. Always check the history of the company. Layoffs.com
Don't join
Then why are you still with Oracle?
When in doubt, don't. Plain and simple.
The hiring manager is correct. The old Oracle Cloud teams were merged into OCI. So they removed redundant teams. Some people in OCI were affected too, I guess because they hired too many too quickly.
Join. You will be fine.
Join if it works in your favor. Generally all new hires within last couple years are treated as first class employees. Most layoffs are from older business units and/or tenured employees. When layoffs happen, I think oracle is trying to 'refresh' its employee pool. No place ultimately is safe. You should always have a 2-3 year exit strategy though. And stay off layoff.com. It is mostly filled with the laidoff and bitter perpetually predicting end of world for oracle.
Most people don’t want a lifelong career at a place anymore, and if you’re skilled enough you can navigate any corporation to improve your own career. Just keep learning and doing and you’ll do well for yourself. Make choices that work for YOU not what others say.

Layoffs are almost entirely non-OCI related. There are always performance-based PIP and such too, of course.
From what I understood was they hired a lot of folks for top dollar like last year to work on oracle cloud and since it didnt work out they just laid ppl off. The way the manager told me that it was older gen version of cloud and we are working on next gen made me feel a bit skeptical. Do u have any inputs on that ?
OCI Classic has most of the lay-off. Probably continue through next 12 months as there are several thousand more people still in Classic.
