How do most people commute to the office? I'm in the Russel Investment building if that matters. Should I try to find an apartment near the office so that I can just walk or take the bus? Don't want to get stuck in traffic or have to pay for parking.
I’m in the same boat. Gonna be at Russel Investments Center & want to find an apartment really close. But at the same time, I’m wondering where/how I’d get groceries and where I’d park my car. Lemme know what you decide
Whole foods, target, and hmart are nearby for groceries. The closest QFC is probably at capital hill and you can get there with light rail
I am at Russell investment centre too. I took an apartment in Belltown and its just 20 minutes walk from there
Bussing is a better option than driving if you can find a place near a direct bus line. Or if you want to go south you can take the light rail in (northbound won't be very useful for commuting until 2021).
If you stay on the east side, commute is manageable. Avoid I5 and 405 and try to carpool and going to Redmond via 520 or Bellevue via I90 takes about 20 minutes average. Also Mercer Island is a good option, even closer. Bussing to Russel is easy from anywhere.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Walk > Bus > Drive. If you consider rental cost, then Bus > Walk > Drive. Driving downtown Seattle will just piss you off every morning and every evening. You will be in good company with high paid tech workers on the public bus especially because Amazon pays for employees public bus fare
