Talked with an ex-Oracle principal level engineer, what the person presented is not even close to a Microsoft 61 engineer. Seem like oracle engineer title is really bloated. Anyone has the same impression?
Years ago I interviewed in their server division and they were hiring a senior engineer whose only job was to look at X-rays of solder joints to see if the boards were soldered properly . I asked them why they needed an engineer to do that and the hiring manager did not have an answer
You will still join or at least try cause money trumps everything.
What's the TC for Principal SWE at OCI Bay Area? I am willing to try.
What's their TC?
Compare that to VPs at the bank or director in marketing. I like the inflation. I am tired of explaining senior is a pretty experienced position to my friends in other fields who think senior is like two years after college. Seriously software engineers are undermining themselves by thinking title inflation is bad. If your only friends and social circle are software engineers, that may be fine. At some point in your life though, you don’t want to look like failure when others look at you with sympathy when they hear you are staff engineer in your 40s as it is not like you can say how well you are paid. Hardware engineers have much higher title for the same age as well.
"At some point in your life though, you don’t want to look like failure when others look at you with sympathy when they hear you are staff engineer in your 40s..." LOL...Yep, can relate to this.
2 of my teammates left as L5 and joined oracle as principal. Both of them were far away from L6. This says a lot on how they are hiring.
I heard OCI pays really well now a days?
Heard it dropped recently.
Isnt higher at lower level better than lower TC at higher level? why do you wanna work more for lower TC?
OCI is luring as much as possible and PMTS is 300K-350k TC
Correct. That title is meaningless.
Of course it is. How do you think they are hiring?
