Oracle cloud - bad hiring/offer experience

I had a senior manager offer from oracle cloud Seattle sometime back... However, a few days after the offer, they rescinded it, blaming a lame reason like reorg. Anyone else had a bad experience with Orcl cloud hiring? What can I do to revive the offer? Reaching out to them hasn't helped.

Why would you want to expose yourself to more disrespect?

Microsoft talespin Feb 25, 2017

You dogged a bullet. be happy! it's not a good company compared to Microsoft

maybe he got a better role n money.. but sorry to hear that.. btw how was the package

Oracle NeedAChang Feb 25, 2017

That's true, a lot of reorg has happened

Oracle YUDH76 Feb 25, 2017

Probably not done yet either.

what team / hiring manager?

Oracle edxks Feb 25, 2017

I got hired with Oracle Cloud team at HQ. The hiring process did take time(2-3 months and there was a hiring freeze in between). But, it is less likely that they will rescind the offer as the selection process in Cloud is quite selective( for my position, they had Interviewed candidates for 6 months) and once they like a candidate they pay quite well

Oracle has had numerous layoffs. You are better off elsewhere.

Oracle edxks Feb 25, 2017

Numerous layoffs in hardware/on-prem groups since it isn't generating much revenue. In Cloud division, they are running short of good talent

Microsoft seadev OP Feb 25, 2017

Its just wrong if they rescind the offers though - will lead to talent shortage! HR policies need to be polished.

Microsoft Fried Feb 25, 2017

Is this oracle cloud in Seattle?

Microsoft seadev OP Feb 25, 2017

Yes

Microsoft Fried Feb 25, 2017

They are hiring again very recently. I am surprised they haven't gotten back to you. There must be something else going on.

Agree you dodged a bullet. Oracle cloud is as awful as it sounds, terrible company that tacked on a marketing term to sell you their same insecure software, but as a service. I don't believe "everything happens for a reason" but hopefully your experience from MS and skills can land you something better.

Insecure software? My career started using two of Oracle's core products (CRM and DB) for a large enterprise company. Oracle products were robust enough to handle the huge growth and sustain well during the enterprise company's tremendous growth period. Most of the other products failed to scale up or handle the increase in load. As someone who has used Salesforce before I joined Oracle, Oracle Cloud CRM products are equally good if not better. It's just Salesforce was a first mover and is better at marketing. Oracle is known for reliable and robust products. It's an exciting time at Oracle Cloud as of now and the pay is impressive. SaaS and PaaS revenues for the last few quarters are very good as well. However, we will have to see how it all plays in the long run(5 years). In my product group, there is a long list of customers awaiting to see our product demo for the next few months

Microsoft talespin Feb 27, 2017

in all honesty, I have seen the Oracle products have so many features that no one really knows how to use it and what buttons to click.. ( even is own pm ) usability and support is a big issue
