Hello all, I have two competing offers for SDE role one from oracle cloud, Seattle and atlassian Mountain View. Below are the details - oracle - 140 base + 20 signon + 10 rellocation and 150K worth stocks for 4 years total TC for 1st yr - ~200k atlassian - 145 base + 10% base + 145k worth stocks for 4 years. Recieved atlassian today , I am trying to negotiate - does attlasian negotiates? what do you guys suggest - I like atlassian but oracles pay is compelling total exp - 2.5yr currently with paypal - TC - 150k
Is it Oracle Cloud or OCI? Heard both of them are very different
OCI
is this sde3 offer? The base could probably go up to 150k. Stock component seems low for OCI. Check levels.fyi to get a sense of what's common, filter for Seattle offers. (Fyi I am not in OCI myself. )
Congrats OP. Can you please share your interview experience with OCI?
$TEAM > $ORCL is your answer
Are you already local? If not we should at least match the relocation. Year 2 comp is already better, although MTV vs Seattle coat of living may be a factor. Culture is going to be miles apart. Which product here at Atlassian? Probably can ask for more stock, the salary is dead on average for a lower YOE P4 here so I don't know that there is going to be much leeway there.
I am Not local. Team confluence
Since not local, definitely ask for relocation. Like I said on the DM, bring up the cost of living here and that the Oracle offer isn't apples to apples. Confluence isn't one of our technically more cutting edge teams but it is a big revenue generator and one which is growing.
My pick would be TEAM. Great culture and pay is close enough.
Pay is ~30k lower in team
Tradeoff of 30k up front (7.5k per year) vs quite a bit more in bonus and a little bit of base salary going forward. Unless you are planning to jump ship after a year for another signing bonus (in which case I'm tempted to suggest "please do join Oracle") or you have an urgent need of short term cash, the higher salary and year to year bonus is a marginally better offer all other things being equal. Which they aren't - the cultures are very different, as are the locations. Whether you want Bay Area or Seattle is probably the biggest question. Very different industry landscapes between the two, and while both are high cost of living it is higher here.
No signing from atlassian?
No
Do you prefer Australian or American?
Grats! Atlassian for sure.
Why do you say that? 30k more per yr isnt considerrable? Plus high stocks and comparatively lesser expensive seattle living
Oracle is gonna be pretty old school like PayPal. Atlassian has 20% time and trying to be more innovative. OCI could be worth it but otherwise Atlassian will be a much more comfortable and flexible job with larger opportunity. Try to negotiate each up if you aren't certain - mention that you have a 30k higher post-tax income to Atlassian, to start
Confused about your math. $30k up front, once isn't the same thing as $30k per year. Oracle is $207.5k in the first year (counting the first equity vest), 177.5k the rest. Atlassian is 203k in the first and subsequent years. You only lose about 4k in the first year (although it's slightly more backloaded) for 26k more a year in ongoing TC Not sure what promotions look like in Oracle. Cost of living, taxes, and lifestyle differences between Seattle and the Bay Area may make 178k TC there better than 203k here, but you are leaving about 25k a year on the table with Oracle, not the other way around
