I'm 6 YOE Java developer and bored of working on java any more. Oracle is giving me opportunity to work on front end, work is going be 70:30 ratio for UI : backend. They use oracle jet for UI and some old tech stack for backend. In paypal work is going to be in java only where project is going to start from scratch. It's a kind of 2.0 for existing project. I'm keen to learn front end and become full stack developer in next 2yrs. Whatever companies I had given interview for, they are giving me work only on backend unlike the team I'm selected at Oracle where the work is mix of both front end and back end (I was working in Walmart labs and got relieved last week. So had to create blind account from my wife's fidelity email id. Sorry for that.) #frontend #fullstack #backend #ojet
Paypal. You could always learn FE on your own. Proper experience is always worth more if the TC matches. At your experience you need to learn about architecture more and small code less. Adding more skills to your resume doesn't help much at this point
Don't believe what you are told before joining. Everything changes when u join
Oracle.
Jet is a mix & match of knockout etc, unlike it's modern counterparts like Angular, Vue. Depending on your aspirations, Oracle seems a good fit not to mention that your pay package is fixed. Which team are you joining ? Also might I add Oracle is a much stable job compared to PayPal
I worked in both the company , PayPal is good , but depend on the team at paypal
Any idea about Enterprise Data Services Team at Paypal? I have been offered a role for the same (SE-3) Need some insights on the WLB + Work
@Paypal @Ymjh72
Keep in mind that Oracle JET is based on knockout JS which is archaic. It is no where similar to newer JS frameworks, maybe closest to angular. It is not popular outside Oracle. Oracle might even ask you to work on VBCS which is way worse. It is a low code framework which has its own hassles. Edit: Also React is very different compared to ojet IMO.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Will the knowledge on JavaScript learnt by working on ojet will ease the path to learn any latest front end tecnology? I'm just asking this because whatever companies I had given interview for, they are going to give me work only on java and not ready to give on anything else unlike by the team I'm selected at Oracle.
Once you master js, all other frameworks can be learnt in 2 weeks(you will be able to crud and navigation). Ask what is the backend framework. If it is something like spring boot or any latest tech stack, consider oracle. But almost all the good teams in oracle have moved from ojet to react. People majorly use ojet for internal tools which doesn't have high impact. What is the team in oracle? Once you learn knockout js ;angular js and vuejs would be cakewalk. But future employers cared a lot for a particular framework. I faced difficulties while switching.
OJET is itself moving towards Preact , you shouldn't decline just because the team is using jet

Pick PayPal. There’s a lot more scope to learn engineering while working on a new backend project from scratch. Unless of course you plan on quitting in a year and creating your own startup or something similar. As you can always learn frontend on your own over time. UI coding isn’t as Computer Science fundamental-heavy
