Outdated laptop at work?
I’d like to know how people can actually get any work done in this company with such outdated equipment. I’m using a 2016 Mac even though my friends from other companies just received 2018 models. It looks like it was even a hand-me-down from someone who probably quit to go somewhere more prestigious. Life is so unfair. Obviously Google/Facebook friends can get the most cutting edge stuff as long as they ask for it since their company is top-tier but even my friend who works at Oracle have new models. I’m probably going to get fired for underperforming due to crappy equipment. Any advice?

I heard nowhere in this post that you actually asked for a newer model - just that you were given a 2016. Put in a help desk ticket and take your manager out for a beer to get it approved.

Amazon is cheap as fuck. Worst fucking dev hardware and upgrade policy in the industry, especially if you are a Linux user. Hard to love your job when you hate your tools. You should join your friends!

Looking around the office, the new Macs given to new employees suck big time - with only 2 usb-c ports for power, keyboard, mouse, monitor, yubikey,... Why would you WANT one of those? At least they have added a usb-c adapter to meeting rooms now so the poor sods can present without chime...
