Got an offer from Redfin for a senior engineer role. Is it safe to join Redfin given the current market volatility and layoffs at Better.com? I know it's not related but real estate seems to be cooling off and Redfin tanked on the recent quarter's losses. Can folks from Redfin share any insights into short and long-term growth and resistance to market volatility? Interviewing at other top techs as well, wanted to understand if it's safer to join Redfin. Offer: TC: 330K Base: 200K Stocks: 90(year 1) Sign on: 40K Location: seattle Current: 200K #redfin #offer #decision
We've acquired a few companies recently that hopefully will help accelerate the business and bring in more revenue. I think it might be safer joining now that the stock has already tanked quite a bit? But the stock market is always unpredictable. Do you care mostly about TC and job stability? I'm asking cuz I came from Amazon and found the culture to be a lot friendlier and more collaborative here, also less oncall pressure (might vary by team). In case that might influence your decision 🙂
I would prefer having higher TC however not at the cost of getting pipped or not life at all. I am trying to understand if I should settle for 330-350K with a good WLB or go the extra mile to get close to 400K. Also how competitive is the environment at Redfin say compared to Amazon/Meta etc.
Personally I would much rather go for good wlb at 330-350. Is it really worth the extra 50k (maybe only like 30k after taxes) to give up your life and peace of mind? I don't know too much about what's happening outside of my immediate team at Redfin but from what I can tell it's a lot more collaborative than competitive. Can't speak for Meta but my experience at Amazon is people expect/wish that you would figure out stuff on your own a lot more, lots more competition, pip pressure, etc.
Redfin has a pretty great product and service, but unclear how they can monetize effectively. Better has an awesome product for refinance, but that market is drying up
This certainly didn't age well.
