Finding out you are getting laid off while you are still in the hospital is not a good look for the HR Dept. And on the eve of the last day of the month nonetheless, which means my insurance would expire the next day.
Standard supplemental insurance papers take at least 3-4 business days to reach the recipient. One can deduce that this was all set in motion even as my supervisor knew the medical difficulties I was facing for quite some time.
Not bitter at all, just wondering where's the dignity!?

But did they not offer any severance period/pay ? Even if they don’t COBRA can predate your coverage ... but it’s expensive
What state are you in? Look into COBRA (or similar if not in CA), for health insurance.
