Hello,

planning to apply for a (senior) SWE position at Datadog, Berlin.
Can someone share the interview process and type of questions asked at Datadog?
What Leetcode and system design questions to expect?

  • I interviewed with them two months ago. The technical phone screen was two Leetcode style questions, easy and medium. Next stage was a take-home assignment. They told me I have a week, and your should spend about 3 hours on it. I spent 3 hours on it, made a working solutions with tests and documentation. Then I got a rejection because of "Not enough tests and documentation, even though the solution is correct and efficient". It seems that they expected me to spend 5-6 hours instead. Screw that, I'm not gonna spend 6 hours, while they spend only 10 min checking my solution. Done with take-home assignments..

      During tech screen/first round, were those problems straight from the Leetcode or modified?

  • Suggestion: ask for an hourly rate if they ask you to do an assignment. Like €100 per hour. That would be more fair

      Thanks for the input. Is that allowed to ask for a pay for take home assignment? And, is it common to ask take home assignment?

    • It seems like it's part of their process. Most companies don't do it. Coding and system design interviews are more common. I like them more because the company needs to invest an equal amount of time as you do
