Is this real?

Everyone seems friendly when you meet them randomly and when you text, but no one wants to meet?

People I’ve seen used to be more outgoing in California. Is this how Seattle is? ☹️

  • Oh man, just when I was planning a move to Seattle to save on taxes. Is 10% in savings really worth the move?

  • IMO, everywhere is just as unfriendly as anywhere else. When you move to a new place after University days you have to put in a lot effort and accept a bit of resistance to meet people and make friends. But keep it up and you’ll meet some nice people eventually and hopefully it’s all up from there!

Definitely real. People in Seattle tend to have long term friends, which means they don't have room for new ones. So can take a long time to get a social circle established because people will be friendly but are not expanding their current circle.

    • This is the common reason given and it doesn't make much sense. Most people you encounter in Seattle are transplants. Every year there are tons of new tech workers moving to Seattle. How can all these new people have long term friends locally? I mean you would think that there's enough people who complain about Seattle freeze alone to befriend each other

  • I think it's just too many boring and awkward tech people blaming their lack of social life on a 'known phenomenon'
