Whiteboard or laptop?

which is better for a coding interview? Will laptop be easier? I never had onsite interview with laptop...

interviewer can take photo of a whiteboard, how can he/she collect solution if I am using a laptop?

Will hybrid of both be a hustle?

Depends how strong you think you are at coding. If you’re average or lower: whiteboard and fake it. If you’re a real engineer (you wouldn’t give a fuk and excel at either) go with computer aka CoderPad and show of your skills. I’m much more pedantic with computer. I weigh the quality and speed of the code much more in that scenario.

I’ve conducted numerous interviews on both whiteboards and laptops. The whiteboard definitely works a lot better. Coding in a runnable environment can make you overtly concerned with getting it to run instead of trying to solve the problem. I had a candidate that insisted doing the problem on his computer, spent 5 minutes setting up the environment, 10 minutes more to get the program to actually run. That’s half the interview time already.

I used to give candidates the choice of whiteboard or computer if they brought one in. After that incident, now I insists on everything on the whiteboard.

I definitely recommend an initial interview over phone and conduct the technical portion in coderpad. This way you can record the session and coderpad can replay it for you at any given time after the interview has taken place.
