Last quarter 2 of our team mates left the team of total 18 people because of pip , both were having 15+ experience. Senior manager hired 4 engineers in past quarter. Now they put 2 more pople in dev plan. So total 4 people in a team of apprx 20 in 1 year. The pople in safe zone are .. 2 PM, 1 TPM, 2 Manager, 1 senior manager. 4 team members who got promotion for the work that was initiated and done by other team members. All managers are dumbs, hardly attend any stand ups, hardly help anyone technically, till date they hardly have wrote a single document. 1 is drug adict and misbehave team members badly. Finally HR is the sheltor for all shitty manager. #alexa #severance #layoff #amazonpip #amazon
Yep Alexa and kindle and related orgs have always been like that. It is trash.
You gave a good amount of details to find you! Not blind anymore lol Jk, I’m so sorry to hear this! Wish Amazon change its culture. Does PIP happens for managers, directors ?
I hardly have seen a single instance so far . Manager can blame the low level employee anytime, and you don't know in there internal tool what will they enter 99% fake information about individuals.
That sucks, you’ll definitely find a better company. All good :)
Its a common story in Amazon. You will not change it so change orgs or skip out to a better company without this backstabbing culture... of which there are many. When your eyes or your gut tell you something is wrong in Amazon then be attentive to that and get out. Late movers are early losers here. Once you are in a better company - keep it that way - just position yourself for success and to deny any interviewing tenured Amazon managers. This kind of culture is bad enough at one company without letting it spread.
And which org is better? Ive been trying to figure orgs with good WLB but it seems that none exists.
Its roulette on a weighted wheel, eventually the house always wins and you go home. The only way to win is not to play - get out of Amazon and join one of the higher ranked companies.
If my wishes can come true, I truly hope these managers get terminal cancer ASAP, get bankrupt, their families get chronic mental health issues. Karma must make them pay.
No offense but thats too much.
It's a pretty humble wish. I'm a human.
@OP, how long did these developers work at Amazon for, and what were the levels?
Role , pip and promotion are not related to your longetivity in Amazon and years of experience. I saw people promoted to sde2 with total 3-4 years of experience and PIP for same sde2 with 15+ experience. Back to back promotion for jokers in 3 years , and talented people struggling to have a peaceful night. Condition is more worst for people in temporary visa like L1.
True, but I noticed that the pattern is 1.5 years and out. I feel like I was an anomaly being pushed out after 3 years. I was just curious.
Name and shame?
omg it's that hard to find a good place to work in this big world.
You are next if you write like that!
I am already in. Did all hard work, and my colleague got promotion for work I did, and they put me in dev plan ... Waiting for PIP
Could you explain how exactly you did work that someone else got promoted for while getting PIPed yourself? Do you not reference version control or are you just not good at standing up for yourself?
