Can you give me concrete examples of the action items which were requested from you if you were put on PIP? Were they just coding tasks or something abstract like improve design skills? Again looking for specific examples.
Take the PIP and invest your severance while looking for another job.
I wasn’t asking for advice on what to do when on PIP. I was asking real instances of what was asked from the employee when put on PIP.
Why? Are you putting someone on a PIP?
Pip is to force an employee out. They are designed to document poor performance. And create poor performance when necessary. "Did not meet performance goal of rewriting tech stack"
Ok so there is nothing one can do about it then.
Yep
PIP would save company's ass in case lawsuit.. most of the time PIPs are not designed to have fair set of deliverables.
I know a friend who was pip'd out from Amazon 2.5 years back and was recently contacted by Amazon for a new job opportunity. In fact, he is even scheduled for an onsite interview next month.
For an SDE, it would be a list of unrealistic deliverables, like deliver a project that would require 3 engineers but you're on your own. Dev plan (which is informal and happens before PIP) should usually be more realistic, but sometimes it's crap like lack earn trust. Edit: dev plan can often be secret, i.e. no one tells you your employment is in danger. You just notice change in the tone of 1:1s. PIP is very formal.
When does pip result in? Is it a gliding path or out of the blue?
That’s not true. I’ve seen PIP applied several times with realistic expectations where the person under it sometimes succeeds and sometimes doesn’t.
