Why would someone want to hire you when our only data point is that you were bad at your previous job? (Serious question, I've seen posts like this before and it seems like the worst way to market yourself)
Because someone gets a referral bonus for referring him. Plus there is a reason company's have an interview process. And if the interview process doesn't filter bad candidates it is the company's fault.
Good point, thanks for giving a totally valid response! (In this case, the company and the employee incentive might not be aligned, though, I suppose it depends on how much the company trusts it's own interview process)

Worst case scenario you can go on leave to extend your time to look for a new job while maintaining visa status.
