I'm having early conversations with Dropbox about a potential fit with a PM management role. Title TBD but would be 5+ PMs. There's not a lot on Blind, so I'd love to hear from folks how the PM team operates / how it's doing / what you think they need to do. TC: 600k+ YOE: 15+
Umm just a heads-up. Dropbox has been somewhat dubious. I found out from an internal contact that I was not hired because I’m not a people person 🙄I’m a dev so, upon hearing that I realized that got lucky and didn’t get myself into what would be a bad work environment for me. YMMV
You imply an engineer doesn't need people skills which would validate that we were right
No, it doesn’t validate you are right. As a supposed tech company you should be aware engineers being on the ASD spectrum is common AF. Engineers being socially awkward is and has always been a thing and translates to not having people skills. Companies like Google & Microsoft do make accommodations for that and take that into account. All an engineer needs is the ability to work with their team and other teams from a technical perspective.
Is 600k your Uber TC or Dropbox TC

Stay away from Growth. It’s all about short term stuff to hit quarterly revenue. Paper is also a mess - product with no Pm fit, although we have heard that it’s redefining itself so it might be a good opportunity for you to turn the ship around if you THINK you can do it. Other than that, agree with the above. Dropbox moves at a snail pace because everyone in the room has to say yes and ownership Is unclear.
But why is that? Aren't QC and AN shaking things up? Or engg and design not playing along?
The root issues have not gone away or improved whatsoever
OP - Did you end up going to Dropbox?
RUN! Coming from Uber you will hate the glacial pace and decision by committee
Will you run too
Interesting. I have heard this before. What accounts for this? Seems inconsistent with the age of the company.
