Getting an L4 offer (HC passed) for Google Ads team. New team. New Product.
Checked Blind for tips on getting the promo from L4 to L5 fast, but not much at one place. Different people different opinion. Wanted to create a thread where its all accumulated.

Do's and Don'ts please.
--------------------------------
Please mention how a person should behave or organise themselves in the team to have higher visibility, good reviews and overall better chance for promo.
-------------------------------

Let me start, from the comments I read.

1. Work Hard
2. Don't compare with others
3. Focus on ownership of certain part of the project. Be an SME. Add value that no one else is adding.
4. Find Impactful work
5. Advertise yourself
6. Send Daily(almost ;) ) CLs
7. Send Daily Notes
8. Use Snippet tool(internal). For keeping daily records. Gives visibility to managers.
9. Write docs for everything and get an approval from reviewers.
10. Get code readability label. Follow all code styles and rules for whatever language you code in.

Edit:

11. Lead Team + Lead Project

I mean, whats the point of your comment. I know you wanna help, help in a productive way. You might have had bad experience, but help others to not let them go through the same.

I know by reality you mean, its all luck and its possible that it doesn't happen even if you do everything. Thats the reason I mentioned in the question "better chance" in the question to deal with comments like your.

Why be bitter? Everyone have bad experiences. I also did at Microsoft. Do you see me complaining and crying.

To get promoted to L5 , you are expected to be consistently performing at L5 level.
So there are 2 key things -
    1. First join and start performing at L4 level
    2. Once you are able to manage performing at L4, change gears to L5

Reason why some Googlers above have mentioned reality, is that L5 needs leadership. So say, if you don't have any L3s in your team, whom will you lead? That's where it gets tricky and difficult to prove in the promo doc.
Leading a project is an L4 expectation kind off, while L5s lead projects + lead project members.

Okay. I assumed that there are always L3 in the teams to have a good overall composition. In the team that I am expected to join, there are many L3s, so should not be a problem I guess.

Thanks for the reply. Updated the thread.

Haha :D I took it as implicit. But I get your point.
Can you elaborate more on what does "Perform well" for L4 means? I guess, this post is more about that.

Can you advise the kind of questions and discussions to have in 1:1 with manager?
Myself manager did share a bit on expectations in H1/H2, expected perf rating for this and next half, expectations to be met for next level, etc.
Now, what else to talk to him?
Also, what to talk to my skip manager about?
