Maybe someone knows.
I have a betterment account. And I have tax loss harvesting enabled.
If I choose to use VFIAX (vanguard 500 index fund) for 401k, can this trigger wash sale rule with betterment?

So basically betterment VTI ~ VTSAX ~/~ VFIAX.
That said, I am not very confident this is correct.
The IRS rules that if you sell a stock at a loss from a taxable account and buy it back less than 30 days later in an IRA this is a wash sale.
It takes a special type of human being to come up with these ideas. When I was trading stocks, if I had a dog I was tired of, I sold it for a loss and never looked back.
Selling index funds and buying them back is beyond special.
You guys deserve jail time
You dont avoid taxes though, you postpone them until you sell stock.
