Hi, I’m about to leave amazon for google. I have 20 days of pto at amazon and want to cash them out. However, i have heard that you can take them as actual pto and then not pay the taxes as if they where a bonus. In other words, if my last official day is 2/14, i can take 20 days of pto until 3/13 and get those counted as taxable income vs a cash bonus. Does anyone have input on this?
You get taxed more on a bonus when it shows up, but it all comes out in the wash when you file your taxes. Just take the check.
Just get the money. WFH instead of PTO if you have to. Bezos can afford it. In fact if you didn't ask for PIP you missed out on a huge chunk of money. Amazon pays a lot to PIP people.
Why would they pay people on PIP? Don’t they just fire people on PIP?
They pay a lot because they it's cheaper than law suits, it's a cost they pay to achieve a churn quota to keep the population on the edge and work extra hard.
No strategy required, only the initial withholding might be different, tax liability will be the same.
I think you should take the vacation no? Cus you get paid for weekends too

A bonus is taxed as regular income. Makes no difference besides getting extra base pay
