Why are Confluent rsu offers so low?

Feb 4 22 Comments

When other companies comparable to Confluent work (quality and quantity) are giving rsus in the order of ~$800k over 4 years. Why is Confluent giving only in the range of $600k?

I am sure it must be because they can but are people choosing Confluent over other companies irrespective of this rsu difference?

Which companies would you choose above Confluent if that company gives +$50k more per year?

My guess is:
Meta (good offer, good company, good new work maybe?)
Snapchat (the offer difference is wayy more than just $50k)
Uber?
Databricks?
Rubriks?
Snowflake?
Roblox?

  • CFLT pay matches or sometimes even exceeds FANG salaries, it could be that they didn't want to pay a particular person that high of a salary based on interview performance or experience. But there are many cases where they've easily matched or exceeded FANG offers.

But I have heard snowflake is more aggressive with pay but the decision also comes down to expected equity performance.

Also what level was the above offer at.

You asked why and I told you. Tons of companies pay even less so of course a lot of people will work there for that tc. Congrats to you for getting even higher offers.

That's exactly my point, I don't think it answered the why. You are right to say that it is what it is. Some pay more and some pay less. But that's not how I look at it.

Either the interview bar is high, so high payment or need to attract is high, so high payment, etc. I am not able to figure out why Confluent is not more aggressive in it's offers apart from what I posted. And I am not sure if anyone on blind can tell us either. But when you say "you asked why and I told you", you should realize that I did not understand the why because your point is - "It is what it is".

  • What exactly do you mean by same quality and quantity? How did you come to the conclusion that Snapchat and Confluent work are the same quality/quantity, but not google for example

Anyway when I was interviewing my Confluent offer was much higher than my Uber offer so idk (I live in Europe, maybe that makes a difference)

This is from the general sentiment anf discussion among friends and blind. Obviously, it is not accurate and when it comes to Google, it's a completely different story and also, very complicated. Snap/Uber/Confluent might or might not be in the same category but they are close enough. Whereas Google is in a completely different bucket with other Fang companies.

And yes, being in Europe maybe the difference as well as the band difference, if any. In USA, the offer difference between Uber and Confluent is quite high and I have the highest possible offers in that band (at both places)

  • CFLT can match or beat pretty much any company TC in my experience. It's also a great place to work so you shouldn't only worry about pay.
