Two weeks notice before signing offer?

Oct 8, 2018 16 Comments

i have offers from fb and google and airbnb. I want to give 2 week notice but not sure which i company i want to take. obviously if i take fb or google they will escort me out. should i wait till after signing my offer to give notice or can i just give it now and decide later? How will they react if they know i have pending offer from competitor? My main dilemma is that if i do take Airbnb then i want to leave asap and not wait till i sign to give notice. i also want to give them adequate notice to transition my work.

Escorting out is a feature not a bug. Say you have an offer from google and you want to leave. Go anywhere you want afterwards. You didn’t lie.

You can give notice but do not share where you are going. Just tell them I am not disclosing it.

Don't say where you are going, you don't have to. Just give your 2 week notice. If they walk you out, they have to pay you. Congrats, you just got two weeks Vaca paid.

They can fire you and not pay but they open up to legal liabilities. Not worth it for big companies. They’d rather pay up and have evidence of your resignation.

I don't think 2 week notice is required by law. It's at will employment

  • If it's a competitor "on the list" you'll be escorted out and given a free 2 weeks. Airbnb is probably not on the list so can just give 2 weeks notice of that's what you want. If you refuse to say, they can, at hr discretion, escort you out anyway.

You don’t have to tell them anything about where you are going. Just give your notice. Don’t burn bridges and stay professional.
