Hello, I have an offer for FB fulltime and I know that in ~5 years I can expect to be making some pretty fat TC by being an E5, however I am also interested in Palantir (FDSE) however I can't seem to find any information on Palantir's promotion hierarchy? I heard that there is only one title for FDSEs? How much TC can one expect to make after ~5 years at Palantir? Is FB better for salary growth? I know Palantir's grad TC is higher than FB but this doesn't appeal to me if it doesn't grow much Save your 'muh palantir is evil!!1111' comments please Thanks
Seems to be only one level across Palantir (the regular tech jobs), https://www.levels.fyi/?compare=Palantir,Google,Facebook&track=Software%20Engineer
But you are paid handsomely when first joining.
My offer was average for FAANG, but came with a 20% raise after 6 months.
Two big points of comparison between fb and palantir are: 1) fb has better stock vesting schedule. No 1 yr cliff. Also fb has refreshers (idk palantir's stance on refreshers) 2) at fb you will get promoted or get fired. So you're guaranteed at least some TC growth if you make it
If maximizing TC at your 5 year mark is your primary concern, you should join FB. I think that you would not be much far behind if you join Palantir but there is pretty much no risk at FB. Palantir is at inflection point and from here I can only see either sharp turn to the upside or downside. Palantir’s FDSE is a very unique role and provide opportunities to grow in the business side of things. I can say that in 5 years you could be managing a huge part of business if you are good and willing to put the effort. The compensation at that level would be a largely in equity and would reflect the responsibilities you are taking at that point. This could materialize into a huge payout if Palantir is successful.
Don’t be a FDSE unless you are certain you enjoy the operations and business side of things!
My TC (ignoring stock value changes) about doubled over that time frame at Palantir. All of base cash, bonus, and amount of stock doubled. At least on the cash front I might expect slightly slower growth now since part of the growth was a correction back to market rates. To maximise your net worth 5 years from today i would recommend Facebook, both in terms of expectation and certainty. However I was still compensated incredibly well at Palantir, and after that number of years there I easily transitioned into an E6+ elsewhere (including E6 offer from Facebook). The career growth and pan-discipline experience at Palantir is something I am very glad I got early on.
