Hi, Is it possible to do part time PhD-CS while working for tech companies. Has anyone done it at Amazon ? How did you talk to your manager about it. How is the compensation restructured then? - Applied Scientist ; TC - 310k
You are already an applied scientist. Why do you need a PhD? If I could go back in time, PhD is the first thing I would erase.
I feel it would be difficult for me to level up with only MS. I could switch job family but I like work in a research environment
If you are already amazon applied scientist level, I doubt you will have much trouble. If you want to get into academia, then sure PhD is a necessary but by no means sufficient condition. But if you want to stay in the industry, your industry research experience will trump most PhDs.
Other tech companies, Yes. Amazon, No.
Which companies generally allow help with this?
Wow applied scientist with TC 310k and without a PhD. How many yoe do you have?
Which university did you do MS in? And which company you worked for in India for two years?
It’s in top 3 CS school. India I worked for a data science consulting company. Don’t want to reveal more here
OP, Have you figured out which all Universities have online or part time PhD in CS? Even I am looking for the same. Please DM me. I am an AS1 and am looking for the same PhD degree.
Same here. I am contemplating on this as well. Any luck?
I'm 3 years late to the thread but am curious about this as well. I didn't realize people did part-time PhDs in CS while working... I'm a data scientist at Amazon (technically Twitch, a subsidiary) and would be interested in this topic if anyone knows more
Looking for the same. Could you please start a group for people who are aspiring to do this?
Which programs and universities are u looking at ?
I haven't applied to programs yet. I would be applying to universities in California. My team is in Seattle and Palo Alto and I can work from any of these places.
