How good of an idea it is to do an MBA from NDSU while working for Microsoft in Fargo, ND? Or what else would you suggest? Distance mba from top schools? P.s about me - swe relocating to Fargo for swe position at Microsoft, 1.8 yoe MS in CE <one in top 30 cs schools>
Why do you want an MBA? Your reason could change my vote.
Maybe I need to slowdown, but I see at as the next step to slowly transition from dev to mgr in next 5 yrs
I don’t know how Intel is. If they care about an MBA or you know for certain the company you want to be at cares, then it might be a good option. However, in most cases it isn’t necessary or sufficient. I have my MBA, it was useful and fun, but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a job I couldn’t have without it. If you’re interested and like the academic experience it won’t hurt. But unless you go to a top school or have a very clear goal that needs it you’re just as likely to have gotten it as a hobby. I’d choose an in person option because the network is a valuable part of an MBA, but have zero clues about that school.
If you wanna go for MBA, only target top 20 schools. The preference should be full time > exec > part time. MBA helps in accelarating career, but only after a certain experience. So, IMO, wait at least 5 years and then go for either full time or exec... Advice by a Duke MBA.
A part time MBA at a no name school is with nothing. I've done it and I've gotten no where.

If you want an MBA, go full time at a top school. If you don't want to do that, wait until it's necessary for the next step of your career advancement and go part-time
That makes sense. When you say go for part-time and wait until necessary, do you mean commute to evening/weekend classes or fully remote? Are they good? Another question is - leaving a job with good TC for 2 years and spending on FT MBA would be a good decision? Just wanted your thoughts I know nothing is right or wrong.
It really 100% depends on WHY you want to get an MBA. If it's just to have an MBA, don't bother. If it's letting you pivot in your career, go FT after 3-5 years of work and do a top 10-15 school. If it's something that's going to let you move higher in management within your company later, you can just wait until you are on the doorstep of that transition and then either do remote, part-time in person, or exec (which is weekends usually)
