Passive vs. Active job-seekers

Dec 29, 2019 8 Comments

So I am currently looking for other opportunities (currently still employed). Do recruiters value self identified passive job seekers as more desirable (less eager/desperate) than active? My team’s climate has grown to be intolerable, full of passive aggression and politics, so I am very eager to get out. Any advice is appreciated.

When/Where do you identify yourself as active vs passive? If it is a LinkedIn headline, I would advice to not even post such a headline.

Are you trying to not look too desperate to recruiters? IMO, anyone applying to a req is interested. Active/Passive is irrelevant.

    • For LinkedIn, you can turn on a setting to say you're looking and change your audience to recruiters only.

LinkedIn won't guarantee that only recruiters or noone from you company will know.

Recruiters are also humans working at a job. When internal, they are evaluated on the number of candidates that accept offers. So they value people whose interests align with theirs. This means while being eager for a job you are also clear in what you are looking for and what will make you sign that offer. Come in with competing offers, negotiate, and sign. That’s ideal.

I don’t understand your question. In some ways, there’s a negative bias from recruiters because it could mean more work for them to get you, but the negative bias toward the unemployed by everyone is undeniable.
