Hi all!
My h1b was selected this year. So I’ll be changing status from F1 to H1B soon
My student visa expired back in June 2019 - but I have been on valid OPT/STEM OPT status since. COVID hit so I never left the country to renew/extend my F1
I’m from India and my passport expires in June 2023. If I renew and get a new passport here in the US- will they give me the old passport back because technically my F1 visa stamp
Expired in 2019? How will I have proof of any US visa? If there is none on the new passport- especially when I go for H1 stamping
Please let me know if anyone has been through something similar or has any suggestions. TIA!

My old passport got damaged and it was going to expire within an year. The consulate returned the old passport (whatever was left of it) along with new passport
If need be you can apply for tatkal passport renewal as well
However you can wait embassy's official reply
Otherwise you might end up getting visa/I-94 upto your passport expiry.
Making sure that I’ll get old passport back when I get a new one - so that there is proof of original US visa in it even though it’s expired
