I just got a job in one of big tech companies in Dublin, Ireland. I am personally coming from one of the CEE countries and will be relocating with my family. I have 5 and 2 years old kids.

Relocation itself is a great opportunity for my kids to become native English speakers, through Irish school I am planning to put them in.

Thinking long term, such a step is also a great opportunity for my kids to take an educational path that would lead to some really good jobs in tech industry. In about 20 years from now that could be software engineering in autonomous cars context, or some AI, or even something like what SpaceX is today.
Myself and my wife are open to moving further west (to US/Bay Area) if that is something that would help our kids.

What kind of educational path, after primary school, do you guys recommend?

Any hints on what should we think of already now?

TC: 120K Euro
YoE: 12

Edit: if my kids are not interested in tech then noone would push them. Lets assume a positive scenario for the purpose of this topic, please. I would like to support my kids as much as I can.

Start with the Amazon LPs as bedtime stories and let them have easy LCs as breakfast till they are 10, then hard LCs onwards for dinner.

  • Don't decide for the kids. Let them find their calling.

That’s a lot of reaaaally big assumptions about the future and very unreasonable expectations you’re putting on your kids. Especially considering how young they are...

You cannot predict this far out. 20 years ago hardware is higher pay and people drop out from EE go into CS. They flipped in the last 7-10 years or so.

Just try to encourage kids to do projects on their own to inspire interest. Who knows how it turns out? Maybe the October Sky kid?

Drop out of EE go to CS? What are you smoking? 20 years ago was the dot com boom. And yeah there was a bust, but not long. If someone decide their higher education with that short sightedness then they deserve to be in HW!!

I wasn't smoking anything. The starting salary was around 50k for CS and 65-70k for EE. Those who can't do the math for EE end up in CS. Even the calculus was a lot easier because they are in the science and not engineering department.

The hard core kids do the EE CE double major, then the CE or CSE majors, the left over does the CS.

You do know back then everyone has a fab and not going to TSMC right? The software guys were the one outsourced to India back then.
