Most companies report pay equality b/w the genders, but why don’t they report pay equality b/w say citizens and visa holders? There are rumors that visa holders are way underpaid; a report would help dispel those rumors.
Not at Uber (and probably other major tech companies, including Twitter, op). Source: I’m a manager with H1B & non-H1B people on my team. Salary is the same for people at the same role, regardless of status. Source 2: our comp team determines salary and they only ask for the role as input. They have zero access to immigration information, which only comes much later in the process (eg I’ve seen us discover we need to do some visa work later on - well after offer accepted) Also, it makes little sense to do something like that (both to differentiate or pay different). Companies that would do so probably don’t pay fair among genders already and don’t report fair pay. And they’re probably small companies where saving a couple grand here or there seems it worth the evetual losing of the people, once they find out (people talk about their salaries. Did I mention I’m a manager? It’s something you learn early on)
I would imagine Visa holders are not citizens and are therefore not protected the same laws. Furthermore, the citizens of this country would not support it. In fact there would be a revolt.
Because the law doesn’t require equal pay for non-citizens. Also, there would be a lot less H1-B visas utilized.
Because that would support suspicions.
