I was exactly at same situation IC5 at oracle with same yoe. Walmart offered staff and Salesforce offered PMTS. I realized Salesforce looks what you bring to the table. If you bring some domain expertise that the team is looking then they can offer otherwise not. Salesforce focus more on your experience, domain than your coding/design skills if that helps to understand.

If you are rejected for principal engineer in Walmart, congratulations, it only means there are better companies and roles out there for you to grab.
Also was it positive feedback or not-negative feedback? If all your rounds were fine but during the debrief no one really showed a whole lot of enthusiasm, they might just give it a miss. Luck plays a role sometimes.

Details please. Positive feedback could also mean good but not good enough for the role. What questions were asked in the interview process and what you answered? Which location? Which team in SF?

Some how i feel you are interviewing after a very long time.

Spot on. It's been 7 years since I attended interviews. It was with SAQL-Seattle team in SF. 5 technical rounds. Questions were into Java, SQL, concurrency, Perf Tuning and system design (uber and fb).

I did well in coding and design rounds though but felt the experience of cloud services integration helped. Walmart thinks itself no less than Amazon but in real it is not. Walmart is way behind
