Peer feedbacks do not matter at Facebook

Level E5. I was told that I will be given a PIP and just received peer feedbacks all of which are highly highly positive establishing me as the owner and lead in my project BUT My manager feels that I am not productive because I write less code which is true BUT I was given a second hand project which was mismanaged from the beginning and which made my life difficult, ie I had to fix nits n shit rather than build frameworks n write lot of code I was told that at my level it is expected to have a shitty project to deal with and yet have high performance The mistakes done by people handling the project before me do not matter, so basically the shit done by people before me and me fixing that shit and not writing easy meaty code 5000 lines in 6 months and rather fixing the nits and improving user experience and doing xfn work to make sure shit does not hit fan , is the cause of me getting a PIP There is no factoriing in that the project was shitty and I was told that someone else would have done better job fixing it, well I disagree I liked Facebook but now I see it just like a shit show going internally and no one does things by logic here but rather end impact measured in terms of lines of code and if u make a design mistake u are called not a good engineer and manager has veto power and senior engineers/managers often decide who gets to stay or not So screw it. I am out.

Sorry to hear! At this point, I believe it’s always known how shitty FB as a company is. Hope you find a better gig!

Ticketmaster randomtkt Jan 8, 2020

FB is a toxic shit show. The only reason you might deserve a PIP is for not realizing that simple fact

Amazon bMrd67 Jan 8, 2020

Yeah best to leave

Microsoft yBYC07 Jan 8, 2020

You may need to focus on bringing more visibility into the technical debt you took on and the changes/investments you did to improve it

IBM Trunk Jan 8, 2020

It is kind of ironic to read a post like this with an existing employee being thrown under the bus, and the posts from countless other blinders asking for interview and negotiation tips so they can line up for FB.

People join FB for the sweet TC. Let's be real..if FB TC was comparable to IBM, this place would be empty.

IBM Trunk Jan 8, 2020

True that.

Facebook cochococho Jan 8, 2020

There’s always two sides of the story

Okta doll$h Jan 8, 2020

Sure. But Blind is full of stories like these.

Facebook cochococho Jan 8, 2020

That adds weight to it but you also must agree that only people with negative stories come to post here

5k loc sounds low for 6 mo how is that measured

AT&T MsdR32 Jan 8, 2020

LOC is a silly metric. If he was doing a lot of refactoring or moving, might be very low TC, but high impact

Facebook udj Jan 8, 2020

E5. My last 6 months LoC was 3k. I got GE. this half LoC is 3k ish . Expecting EE (if not GE) and a promo to E6. LoC != Impact. Alignment with your manager is important for your success. I agree FB can be a shitshow at times.

Okta doll$h Jan 8, 2020

I wonder if a Manager can be PIPed out

Facebook awes0me OP Jan 13, 2020

I don't think alignment matters. It is what they perceive and how the managers manager perceived. I have written 7k lines but that's not enough to prevent u from pip On top of that much code I have delivered done cross team work and what the f not

Unfortunately managers at Facebook are incompetent at their jobs Leetcode and gtfo

Red Hat fh46xj Jan 8, 2020

Where do you think the managers are competent? Really asking no sarcasm..

Facebook zlatan123 Jan 8, 2020

Most just care about garbage metrics like LOC and diff count Most have no idea about what empathy means and how empathy makes a good leader Basically most just want to throw others under the bus and behave like saints as if nothing’s ever wrong with the way they do things 😬
