Peeps who left FB, what was the main reason for you leaving FB? Its been just a few months but I feel like getting out. Last rating MA

My reasons to get out.

1. Projects do not have structure and chaotic env leading to stress
2. People optimizing for PSC rather than trying to build something meaningful which again increases my stress levels.

I am happy with my compensation.

Interested to know your reasons for getting out of this company.

  • Left Facebook to try something new at Microsoft (one of the Azure products).

My experience at Microsoft has been a total shit show. Last week one senior swe that joined before me left because
job sucks. Then today the principal in my team said he’s leaving because the work sucks and there’s no career path.

I’m on my way out as well. Thinking very hard about going back to Facebook. I left as an E4.

      OP
Work sucks because there are no innovative projects?

@sherylsand no innovative projects and terrible culture. Everything comes from the top and engineers have no say in the work. A lot of things suck and people can’t change it because the director doesn’t want to.

      While Facebook was disorganized,
this feels worse. It’s like everything is a priority and leadership has no idea what to choose, so they keep jumping from thing to thing every few weeks and you have to drop any planning you’ve done.

  • I am E5 making 500k. I try to do minimum to get MA and chill. Fb is undervalued. I am sure I would reach 600k by end of the year. Fb teaches you a lot. I won't stay here for long but at least 2-3 years for learning and $$$.

Joined at relatively lower stock price so more like 700k after stock appreciation? TBH I don’t even closely look at my comp numbers these days lol. My major income is not from work anyways...

  • Too much of politics, PSC focused work and not mission driven, not so good culture.

I left FB for Amazon about a year ago. As L7 at both, I feel I have learned more at Amazon due to the enormous breadth and scope of ownership than at Facebook where, even though I had as many partner teams (cross-org initiatives), they were more narrow in terms of scope (i.e. get a feature/product to be used by many orgs when said feature/product was not that complicated vs. juggle 7 different programs with 7 different release cadences and make sure you don't break anything because they all touch the same code base while also making millions for the company). I had a terrible Director manager at Facebook and the projects were too short-term focused. I feel I own more here even though it is more top down. My Director has been with this same team his whole career at Amazon so I get to learn a lot from them. I work from noon ET to 6pm ET, got TT on my 1st review. I couldn't be happier.
TC at Amazon: 850K without counting stocks. Counting stock growth, it comes about close to the 1.1M I was making at FB. I am going to cry for the 15k difference? My sanity is priceless.

Do you think E5s have it better or worse than E4s? Just in terms of stress/wlb, not compensation obviously.
