Apart from the compensation, what are the other perks of being a director or VP at Google/Facebook/Twitter etc? TC 575k
You get to call yourself director or VP, which sound flashy
Come to a bank then, we’re all VPs!
No company gives separate perk to a Director or VP. You don’t want to create overt differentiation between employers based on level. You may be eligible for a business class travel as a VP and get an administrative assistant, but other than that, the REAL differentiation is what you get paid. That ways, the company does not have to create divergent perks for senior leadership employees but pays them enough for them to self create that for themselves.
Isn’t the high TC enough? What more do you want? Female bodyguards?
Do VPs and Directors get their own offices?
Here, only SVP+ have their own offices. VPs don't.
Who has their own offices in such companies, if at all anyone ?
Sr Director+ often get executive assistants. VP+ often also get a chief of staff. Not really a personal perk, as they're doing work for the company, not you personally. There are lots of offsites to interesting places that are Dir+ or VP+.
Wouldn’t you know by now if such perks really exist ?!
Would you? Most people don’t know about the discretionary equity awards at FB and Google, the executive check in at SFO, or the Google squash court. It’s good to share this knowledge.
The discretionary equity is not just director or VP. The SFO thing isn't executive
Not sure about google, but in finance there are a lot of little things that add up. The main thing is the information flow. Effectively you get to know more about what’s going on which when used right can translate into tangible difference in immediate income and its expectation. Of course, it has to be a real senior role, not a vanity title.
This sounds like you are referring to engaging in insider trading?? Are you?
Nope. That’s not a good idea, we’re being watched all the time. I mean info that helps you navigate your career. You know about projects and developments inside that help you make right moves
You get to have a lawyer create a golden parachute for you. You can live on the east coast and they might pay for weekly business class travel to the west coast, apartment rent, a car, massive bonuses 40-60% of base, and huge stock allocation. I’ve also heard free orthodontist work and entrance to elite vp business school programs.
What’s a golden parachute?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_parachute - basically if you get fired you get paid a bunch of money.
