I've Airbnb and Uber interview this week. So far I've done Cracking the Coding Interview book and doing Leetcode (around 100 completed). 1. What's should I focus on one day before the interview? 2. Do they both directly go to coding interview? How many coding questions need to be completed 1 - 2? 3. If I'm not able to get to the running code is that direct rejection? 4. Should I expect questions regarding general CS knowledge, my work exp or system design? YOE: ~7 Thanks in advance for you help!
Can only answer for Airbnb. 1. There’s very little you can change the day before the interview in terms of general cs knowledge. So relax and do a leetcode or two if it makes you feel any better. 2. Usually there’s a part one and two to a phone screen question. We don’t ask two unrelated questions for one interview though. 3. Not necessarily. It depends on the difficulty of the question. There’s some questions where if you don’t get an optimized running solution it’s an automatic no. It’s always at the discretion of the interviewer. We might ask you to re-interview is there wasn’t strong enough of a signal. 4. For phone screen it’s purely algorithms and data structures. Good luck
Thanks, this is definitely helpful. Had a bad experience with Pinterest so wanted Lear things up before I give these interviews. Pinterest Interviewer asked the follow up question when only 5-7 mins were remaining. After I explained the logic and started coding she stopped me in couple of mins. I would have definitely finished it in 5 more mins but instead she wanted to keep that time for any questions I may have. Pinterest gives contract to some tech assessment company to take technical screenings and since she was paid hourly she was more concerned about finishing the interview within an hour rather than giving 5 extra mins to complete the code.
Oh we don’t do that. All our interviewing is done in house. We get a bad rep for our interviews because some people think only new grads do interviews but we haven’t hired very many new grads in the past year, so I think these are remarks from disgruntled candidates. Also we don’t make the questions ourselves. All engineers with 3+ months experience at Airbnb are required to do interviews. I usually try to give the candidate as much time as possible and will occasionally go overtime if it’s really close but sometimes I legit have to go to a meeting after. The one thing I’ve noticed in interviews from Airbnb vs other large tech companies is that you have to write a lot of code in 45 minutes. Hope all goes well for you
Can Anyone from Uber shed some light on Uber phone screen?
@123456 hw was your interview with airbnb?
I did both, if you’ve seen the question, tell them right away, don’t pretend struggling.
I haven't done all the Leetcode problems so chances of me getting unseen problem are higher, but I know some people have done more than 50% leetcode problems. Do those people really tell interviewer if they had seen the question earlier?
I didn’t tell and failed. That’s why I d like to suggest.
