I have appeared for Google, Amazon, Apple technical phone screen round. I have written 98% executable program almost in all rounds. Why am I not selected? Do they expect us to remember all in built java functions of all data structures? None of them use coderpad or any online editors. It's kind of annoying as we never code on plain notepad. Any tips on how to ace?
Show them you can think quickly on your feet. I have misunderstood the problem before, corrected it then was told whether I could make it faster and optimized it for big O. All the changes were made right away after something was brought up.
I have had this problem in the past and I figured this was because I wasn't talking much. You should also use the online shared editor to demonstrate your approach via an example.
Thank you. I tried my best to explain the problem in my words. Even the problem was very straightforward. I explained it in my words. Should we say that this can be solved by classic sorting/searching algorithm? And if we don't specify that and just walk them through that algorithm, it's not worth it?
I guess they are more interested in how you got to the solution and what different approaches you tried before choosing the final one. Just specifying 1 final answer may not always help. Try using Pramp or some other similar mock interviewing site. It helped me a lot.
Op are you in Austin? I had an onsite with Amazon recently. We can leetcode together. Hit me up
