1. Pinterest L3 MLE Base : 165 RSUs : 200 / 4 Annual TC : 215 + 55 sign on 2. Amazon L4 AS Base : 175 Annual TC : 270 (including RSUs and Y1, Y2 sign ons) Location : SF Bay Area for both I'm looking for a role where I get to learn a lot, would prefer if the work is 50-50 split between ML RnD and infra/engineering so I can pick up new skills from both domains. My main questions are: 1. How is the work distribution of an Amazon AS? My guess is it's mostly RnD and ML modelling, so I won't get a chance to pick up engineering skills. What about Pinterest MLE? My guess is more 50-50. 2. How are stock refreshers/annual compensation reviews at both Pinterest and Amazon? 3. I really like the team and project at Pinterest, but the stock has been falling. Is it worth joining PINS given its current situation? 4. How important is it to prioritize the TC of your first job for career growth? Would the TC/level of my next job depend a lot on my current TC? Would love to hear any perspectives about these. TC : 0 (new grad) YOE : 1 #tech #amazon #pinterest
Make a poll. I’d vote for Amazon because it’s business is more lucrative than Pinterest. Plus they have a lot of teams so mobility is wide and diverse.
Edited. Makes sense, I'm just wary that I'll be committing to RnD early on and not get an opportunity to learn infra/engineering skills.
Both are similar and reputed. I would say pick based on tech stack. Pinterest is python shop Amazon is java shop. Even in ML, amazon uses java! For me personally I would have picked Pinterest because of Python
I see, that's something to consider. I guess Python tech stack skills would be more transferable later on as well.
If you don’t know java already then don’t join because the level of java they use is production level. You would keep on catching 🤙 It blew my mind when I saw the code base with java written by applied scientist
Btw Amazon doesn’t hire L4 Applied Scientist. Do you have PhD?
How was both interview process like?
Pretty similar. Amazon rounds were ML theory questions, deep dive into resume, ML design, one leetcode, one pure LP. Pinterest rounds were 2 open ended ML design + theory, one leetcode medium, one coding (OOP practices and stuff). Amazon was more ML theory heavy while Pinterest focused more on thought process about the problem.
Hi … can I DM you on what is your preparation strategy and how did you prepare for AS and what are the different rounds?
OP are these final offers post-negotiation?
Yeah mostly
Normally would say pin over amz for swe but AS is a great role I would consider taking it.
