How is the engineering life at Pinterest? Is the tech stack good? I heard that there’s an opportunity to work with different languages: python, java, elixir, is that true? Are you happy with the quality of tech and infrastructure, do you think it’s on par with top companies? Are the engineering challenges exciting? Is the scale big?

The question is not about the business but about the tech
After the ship is under water, furniture is worthless.
The tech stack is good, good opportunity to work with different languages like all the ones you mentioned, and the scale is big (hundreds of millions of users)
Do you work with many different languages in your day to day work, or is it depends on what team are you at, and some teams can be locked with one language (like python)?
Dependent on team. Most teams use one or two languages on the backend. When building a new system there is room to consider Java, Python, Go, and Elixir, but your team will likely lean towards useing the same language as their other systems unless the new systems requirements really favor the strengths of a particular language.
What is elixir used for at Pinterest?
Is it on par with other tech companies like fb twitter or google - no. We are pretty far off. But the engineers are solid and there is plenty of opportunity/challenges to do good work. The scale is there and that means you have the opportunity to build out some really good infra components.
What makes you think that Pinterest is not on par with the companies you mentioned? Even for entry level positions?
I'd like to hear more about Seattle office, can anyone share some?
